An early morning fire swept through Yankton’s Colonial Inn Motel Tuesday, causing severe damage to the business and placing more stress on the city’s capacity for visitors.

“If it weren’t for a working smoke detector, we probably would have had a fatality on our hands.”

 

  Such were the Monday morning reflections of Kevin Schroeder, chief of the Cloquet Area Fire District (CAFD), following a devastating weekend fire.

 

This photo was taken at Fire Service Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 12. A total of 128 firefighters attended.

Arnold’s Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a house fire on March 3. When they arrived, the fire had spread to an adjacent home as well. Due to the extreme cold, assistance was called for prior to arrival from both the Milford Fire Department and the Spirit Lake Fire Department. The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue was dispatched at 3:05 p.m. to 184 Park Place in Arnolds Park for smoke coming from a home. Upon arrival at the location, fire was through the roof of the garage attached to the home and impinging into the structure.
